Meet Yasmin
I’m Yasmin, affectionately known as Yaz to loved ones. I love to make sweet treats and sometimes paint on cookies. I’m a wife… and I’m a mother.
I first gained interest in baking when I was a child watching my grandmother in the kitchen and eventually receiving my own Easy Bake Oven. Do you remember those? It wasn’t until my colleges where I realized that baking meant more than something fun to do for the holidays. I started making desserts in my dorm room and at my friends place… everyone raved about it, although I still did not have the confidence to take it seriously. Once I completed my Bachelor’s degree, I eventually enrolled in The Art Institute’s Culinary Arts program and immediately I knew that I was on the right path – but it was only just the beginning.
Fast forward to a year later, I gave birth to my son and had a traumatic experience. I struggled to adjust to my new role as a mom and trying to get myself back on the road of pursuing my passion seemed even further to reach than it had before. I realized that I could no longer let my dreams be pushed aside and decided that it was time to let my talents shine and pursue my passions any way I can.
So, I started a blog in August 2016 as a way to hold myself accountable to my creativity. As I shared recipes and life lessons, family and friends began requesting desserts made for birthday parties, baby showers and other events. Eventually, I became so busy making desserts, Blooming August became a dessert catering business, focusing on decorated sugar cookies.
I decided to try my first shot at decorating cookies in December 2016 after seeing it everywhere on social media. I researched recipes, tips, and tools, and got to work. I practiced (a lot), viewed tons on videos and YouTube, attended a class by a local cookier, and kept doing it. As matter of act, I still practice in between orders! I also make other desserts, but I’ve learned that I really enjoy this new journey in my “sweet” world, creating edible pieces of art.
Through Blooming August, I share my journey to live a life that I love, in hopes to provide inspiration for you to embark your own journey and start planting seeds as well. You may not have all of the tools right away, but if you have a dream, you have to start creating where you’re planted. I did, and there is lots more to come.
Laugh with me. Bake with me. Grow with me!
Happy planting!
Yasmin

“I’ve learned that fear limits you and your vision. It serves as blinders to what may be just a few steps down the road for you. The journey is valuable, but believing in your talents, your abilities, and your self-worth can empower you to walk down an even brighter path. Transforming fear into freedom – how great is that?”
