Recently, I had the opportunity to speak to a group of young girls with my sister, Rachel, who has been doing sessions for the past few weeks at a local child care center, representing our family non-profit, Agape Centric.
After we reviewed previous lessons, I spoke about how being “exceptional” has helped me to become an entrepreneur. Confidence and hard work were the core of my speech, which I believe work hand in hand. Without these two things, people will not take me seriously and I won’t be able to produce quality products.
Then, I asked the girls to talk about what they want to be when they grow up and what they like to do in their free time. Cheerleader, baker, gymnast, doctor, veterinarian, painter, were among some of the answers. I’m trying to think what I wanted to be as a child… I think I wanted to be a teacher, but I really don’t remember.
I do know, that as a child I enjoyed baking with my mom (I had an Easy-Bake Oven) and creating art in my free time. I don’t think I ever thought I could do this as a profession. Fast forward to present day, I love how it came full circle for me – although, I’m just getting started. I believe there is a connection between our desires and interest as a child, and what we enjoy as adults. Sometimes, it evolves into something else, but there is a connection. I feel more at peace when I have the opportunity to share my artwork and baked goods.
To wrap up our session, each of the girls had a chance to decorate their own cupcakes. They were so excited! I hope at least one of the girls will remember something I said and be inspired to pursue something they really enjoy. To view photos of the event, scroll down below.
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? Are you in that field now?
Peace and Love!
